NASHIK: Residents of Igatpuri participated in a hunger strike on Monday in protest against the rise in water and property tax and poor condition of the main road.
The hunger strike was eventually called off after the roll back in taxes by the Igatpuri Municipal Council and assurance from senior officials of the state public works department (PWD) to take up the repair work immediately.
Office bearers of the Igatpuri Jagruk Nagrik Samiti said that they have given an ultimatum to the PWD to complete the repair work within four days . They have threatened to block the Mumbai-Agra highway at Igatpuri if they find the work unsatisfactory.
Pankaj Gosavi, chief officer, Igatpuri Municipal Council, told TOI, "The issues of the agitating residents were the proposed hike in water tax and property tax. The issues were resolved from our side on Monday. The residents also expressed displeasure over the poor condition of the main road at Igatpuri."
