NASHIK: A driver of a private bus and an 18-month-old girl died in a road accident in the Charanmal Ghat of Nandurbar district on Saturday night. Seven to eight other people suffered serious injuries in the accident.

The Navapur police of Nandurbar are in the process of registering an FIR in this regard. The deceased bus driver has been identified as Abjan Musabhai Sodha, of Junagadh, while the child has been identified as Ashwini Suresh Sali of Satana.

There were around 55 passengers on the bus. The Navapur police said the injured were admitted to different hospitals in Navapur. The other passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Assistant police inspector Nilesh Wagh, of the Navapur police station, said the bus was moving towards Junagadh from Pimpalner in Dhule district. The passengers on the bus were workers, who work in sugar cane fields.

The bus driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the curve of the descending road in Charanmal Ghat. Then the bus skidded off the road and toppled. The police reached within a few minutes of getting information about the accident. Ambulances were also summoned and the injured were shifted to the Navapur rural hospital and other private hospitals.

The child died while undergoing treatment at the Navarpur rural hospital. While Sodha, who was also in critical condition, died in the ambulance on his way to Surat.
