NASHIK: The city police has recovered goods worth Rs 70 lakh from over 200 raids carried out at gambling dens across Nashik so far this year.
As compared to 53 raids carried out last year, the city police in the last seven months has carried action on around 10, 000 gamblers.
After seeing a spurt in murders, body offences and chain snatching, the police began imposing nakabandi, raiding illegal businesses and drives on illegal dens.
Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Sachin Gore said that 211 gambling dens have been busted in the last seven months and the police will continue to crackdown on such places that have become a source of illegal money and hatching crimes.
In a major raid conducted last month, the city police suspended a constable posted with the Mumbai Naka branch for his alleged involvement in gambling. The incident came into light when the police conducted a raid, arresting 40 people and seizing cash worth Rs 5.71 lakh.
Police have also found links of politicians holding senior positions in the raid. In the same month, the Adgaon police found Shiv Sena city youth wing chief, Rupesh Palkar and his accomplice Girish Bhartikar (22), involved in a roulette gambling at his residence.
In June too, the Indiranagar police arrested five persons including Shiv Sena leader Sudam Dhemse in a gambling raid that was conducted behind a premium hotel.
Gore said that action has been taken on around 10,000 people in the last seven months. Police is trying to break the nexus of criminals and politicians, which came to the fore in the recent past.
The city police have raided over 200 gambling raids in the past 227 days against 53 raids carried out last year. The Amount of recovered goods are about Rs 70 lakh and action on about 10, 000 gamblers in the past seven months.

The raid allegedly being operated, just opposite the Mumbai Naka police station also resulted in attaching the senior police inspector Bajirao Mahajan to the control room.
The cops have also found links of politicians holding senior positions of political party in raid. In the same month, the Adgaon police found Shiv Sena city youth wing chief, Rupesh Palkar and his accomplice Girish Bhartikar (22), involved in a roulette gambling in his residential premises.
In the month of June too, the Indiranagar police arrested five persons including Shiv Sena leader Sudam Dhemse in a gambling raid that was conducted behind a premium hotel.
Gore said that action on around 10, 000 persons have been taken in the past seven months. He added that cops are also trying to break the nexus of criminals and political leaders in the city which came to the fore in recent past.
