NASHIK: The Nashik rural police arrested two people and seized gutkha and flavoured tobacco worth Rs5 lakh and a pick-up vehicle worth Rs4 lakh, from Dindori on Saturday. The police registered an FIR against four accused for transporting the gutkha and banned tobacco in the pick-up vehicle.
The Dindori police said they received information about some persons transporting flavoured tobacco and pan masala, which is banned in Maharashtra, in a pick-up vehicle. They intercepted the pick-up vehicle around 3.30pm on Sunday near Waghad Phata Peth under the Dindori police station.
The police arrested two persons, Rushikesh Pelmahale (21) of Dindori and Sumit Jadhav (32) of Ramwadi Panchavati, from the spot under various charges punishable under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police said the banned tobacco products were worth Rs5.65 lakh, and the pick-up vehicle was worth Rs4 lakh.
