Nashik: An offence has been registered against television actress Ketki Chitale with the Parner police station for attempting to create a rift between communities by putting up an objectionable post on social media.
Following the complaint by a farmer and activist, Sanjiv Bhor, the Parner police have booked the actress under section 153 of the Indian Penal Codefor deliberate provocation with intent to cause a riot and other sections for defamation.
A case had also been registered against the actress with the Nashik city police on Sunday.
Bhor, who claims to be a follower of the Varkari sect, said the actress, through her post on social media, had made derogatory comments about former Union minister and MP Sharad Pawar.
Bhor has alleged in his complaint that Chitale had put the post on social media with the intent to create a rift between communities. He further stated that the actress has mentioned saint Tukaram, the 17th century Marathi poet, in the post to give the impression that the saint himself had written the lines, thereby defaming the saint as well.
Bhor said the post has hurt the religious sentiments of people of the Varkari sect.
The complainant has further said objectionable posts put on social media in the past by the actress deliberately tried to create a rift between communities.
The Parner police are investigating the case.
