Nine held for drunk driving

The city police booked nine people for drunk driving on Friday.While six were booked by the Indiranagar police, two were booked by the Sarkarwada police and one by the Nashik Road police.

NASHIK: The city police booked nine people for drunk driving on Friday. While six were booked by the Indiranagar police, two were booked by the Sarkarwada police and one by the Nashik Road police. Police officials said that those booked for drunk driving from Ranenagar area were Al Abbas Ishad Razvi of Bharatnagar, Kailas Marathe of Trimurti Chowk and Sanil Saudane of Pandav Nagari.
Meanwhile, Santosh Kamble of Rajeev Nagar Slum and Maruti Jamdade, resident of near Ashoka Tower were caught from near Kakaka Dhaba on Mumbai Agra Highway and Raju Kanade of Vijay Nagar, Bhagur was caught from near Kashish Hotel at Chetana Nagar.

The Sarkarwada police booked Hemraj Gavali of Pandit Colony and Uday Tijore of Anandwalli, found drinking and driving near Tilakwadi signal. The Nashik Road police booked one Yogesh Bare of Kathe Galli, Dwarka who was arrested at Bytco Signal, in Nashik Road.
Senior Police inspector of the Indiranagar Police Station, G R Chaudhary said that a large number of people were found driving in an inebriated state on the Mumbai Agra highway as a large number of hotels are situated by the highway.
He said on the night of December 31, strict vigil will be maintained on the highway stretch. Traffic cops said that though they have six breathalyzers, police personnel also take action on suspicion of drunk driving and send people for medical examination before booking them for the offence.
ACP Sanjeev Thakur of the traffic department said that this year they have filed over 1.50 lakh cases. College Road, Gangapur Road and Mumbai Agra Highway, where a large number of hotels are concentrated will be strictly monitored to prevent drunk driving, he said.
Meanwhile, the city police on Saturday evening began a drive to check criminals and began nakabandi operations. Senior police officials said it was to ensure that mischief mongers in the city are under check.
About 1,500 police personnel including top cop, the DCPs, ACPs and all the senior PI and PIs combed the sensitive areas in their respective jurisdictions.
