New SP takes charge of Nashik rural

Nashik: Ankush Shinde took charge as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nashik Rural in place of Sanjay Mohite, who got transferred to Mumbai as Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Sanjay Mohite, who took charge as the SP of Nashik in February 2014 had been instrumental in ensuring a peaceful Kumbh Mela held in August-September 2015 in Trimbakeshwar near Nashik alongside the Kumbh held in Nashik city during the same period.

Apart from the Kumbh management with respect to policing, Mohite also took special interest in bringing down the road fatalities in the rural parts of the city by organising special drives for drunk driving, rash driving, driving wrong side, no reflectors/tail lamps on heavy vehicles, etc.

Meanwhile, there were also some shocking crimes during his tenure. In April 2015, five dacoits posing as policemen had robbed a van of gold biscuits, worth Rs 16.28 crore near Nashik on the Mumbai Agra highway. The van which belonged to cargo transporter Sequel Logistics of Andheri in Mumbai was on its way to Shirpur gold refinery in Dhule.

Apart from this, there were quite a few robberies in Nashik rural areas which were eventually cracked by the rural police led by SP Mohite.
