Nashik traffic violations down, police to focus on bus drivers
Nashik: With the traffic police receiving live feeds of vehicular traffic at signals across the city, they plan to issue challans to erring city bus drivers as well. The installation of CCTVs at traffic signals and the e-challans generated through them by the police have created quite a buzz in the city. As a result, motorists who earlier showed no regard for traffic signals now seem to be following traffic rules, at least at the signals.Senior officers of the city traffic branch said there was a substantial drop in the number of traffic rule violations reported on Saturday compared to the day before, when the e-challan system was started. However, they have also decided to take action against drivers of city buses who are often found halting vehicles beyond the stop line or jumping signals.A large number of city buses ferry passengers from one place to another in and around the city. Over the past three years, there have been several accidents involving city buses, and some of them have been fatal, too. As a result, the city police also started conducting workshop-s for drivers of the city buses in batches from Nov 2025.The police officers said the bus drivers have been sensitised on things like the importance of wearing seatbelts while driving, not speaking on cellphones, adhering to the road signals, maintaining the speed limit on different roads, and not indulging in overspeeding or unnecessary lane cutting.
Vishal Ahire, who works in an IT company and is a resident of Satpur, said, "All people commuting on two wheelers in the city can tell the driving style of city bus drivers. Honking while overtaking vehicles from the wrong side just to scare off bikers is common. Those travelling by buses can tell the behaviour of some drivers, who overspeed and apply brakes abruptly. Though not all bus drivers may be rash drivers, those violating traffic rules should definitely be fined."
