Nashik police constable dismissed for criminal association and misconduct
Nashik: Police commissioner Sandeep Karnik terminated constable Irfan Shaikh from service on June 16 due to his association with serious offenders and involvement in criminal activities.In July 2024, violence erupted between two groups during a ‘haldi' ceremony in the Bajrangwadi area, under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Naka police station. A group of seven to eight people from the Khadkali area allegedly arrived on motorcycles and assaulted members of another group. Following the violence, cross-complaints lodged at the Mumbai Naka police station resulted in cases against more than 30 people.During the investigation, one accused told the court that a policeman had physically assaulted him. Examination of Irfan Shaikh's call detail record (CDR) confirmed his presence at the scene of violence. He was taken into custody on July 18, followed by one day in police detention and judicial custody from July 20 to Aug 1. Irfan Shaikh was later suspended, and a divisional inquiry was initiated. The inquiry established Shaikh's connections with serious offenders who had cases registered at Bhadrakali and Mumbai Naka police stations. Also, he maintained contact with externed criminals and engaged in activities unsuitable to the image of police. Based on these findings, the divisional inquiry recommended his dismissal.On June 13, he was summoned to present his defence against the proposed dismissal. Despite his request for clemency, the administration terminated his service on June 16s.
