Nashik facility of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd overhauls two more civilian aircraft
Nashik: Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd's maintenance, repair and overhauling (MRO) facility in Nashik has handed over two civilian aircraft to a private airline operator after successfully overhauling them. The Nashik division of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) recently initiated its civil aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations. The facility successfully overhauled its first civilian aircraft — an Airbus-320 Neo belonging to IndiGo — in March 2025 and returned it in the same month."HAL's Nashik MRO facility has overhauled two more civilian aircraft, Embraer aircraft E-175 (75-seater) and E-145 (50-seater), belonging to a private airline. While aircraft E-175 was handed over to the private airline in the second half of April, E-145 was handed over after overhauling in the first week of May," said sources in HAL.Previously focused solely on defence aircraft, the defence PSU has expanded its MRO services to include civilian aircraft starting this year.In Nov 2023, HAL formed a partnership with Airbus to create a ‘C'-Check facility at Nashik for the A320 fleet, complying with DGCA and EASA regulations. This collaboration encompasses consultancy services, tool provision, and technical documentation for aircraft maintenance. The inaugural A320 aircraft overhaul commenced and was completed in March. French representatives from Airbus conducted multiple visits to the HAL's Nashik facility to assess the MRO capabilities for A320 family aircraft maintenance. The Airbus consultancy team provided specific upgrade recommendations and conducted skill enhancement workshops for HAL personnel. To start with, facility plans to overhaul more than a dozen A320 aircraft annually. It aims to progressively increase capacity to 20 aircraft in stages.Manish Rawal, vice-president of Nashik Industries and Manufacturers' Association (NIMA) and its aviation committee chairperson, expressed optimism about the defence PSU's expansion into civilian aircraft maintenance at its Nashik facility, noting the successful completion of three civil aircraft overhauls in the past two months. "This will also provide business opportunities to the vendors engaged in manufacturing spare parts in the defence sector and generate jobs," added Rawal.Nashik: Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd's maintenance, repair and overhauling (MRO) facility in Nashik has handed over two civilian aircraft to a private airline operator after successfully overhauling them. The Nashik division of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) recently initiated its civil aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations.
