The Nashik district has a total of 16 lakh beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana — which provides health cover of Rs 5 lakh each and treatment and surgeries for various illnesses and ailments — and only 5.3 lakh had got the cards. Moreover, the Covid pandemic affected the card distribution process. That is why the special drive had to be conducted.

“Through the camps, the Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendras and the gram panchayat offices were designated to issue the cards after verification of documents,” a senior officer of the Nashik zilla parishad health department said.

“If the beneficiaries have the cards, they get easy access to healthcare facilities. The beneficiaries who qualify for the government scheme have been given a letter from the government. When they need medical treatment, they have to produce the letter, their personal details etc. However, If they have the cards, they just need to present them to get all the benefits,” the officer added.
