Nashik: Five members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Sunday highlighted the problem of increasing number of potholes by offering flowers to the potholes in the Upnagar area.
Adv Nitin Pandit, organizer of the city unit of MNS, told TOI, “The Jai Bhavani Road near the Upnagar Naka junction is in an extremely bad shape. There are huge potholes on this road which become very slushy.”
There have also been cases of vehicle tyres getting damaged due to the poor road condition.
He also mentioned that after a small spell of rain these potholes are covered with water, making motorists fall down because they are unable to gauge if there potholes beneath the accumulated water.
“Owing to the heavy traffic on the road, a large number of vehicles pile up at the Upnagar junction throughout the day and motorists are left with almost no place to halt due to the big potholes. Women riding two-wheelers suffer the most.”
The MNS members also offered flowers along the road-side to ensure that the protest did not hamper vehicular traffic movement.
Pandit added that while they had organised a small protest on Sunday, they will organise a bigger protest if the potholes were not repaired within thenext week.
This year, the city has seen a rise in potholes releated complaints. Citizens allege that almost all roads now have potholes after every kilometer or two.
Last week, NMC commissioner Ashok Karanjkar on Monday told the public works department (PWD) officials to repair all potholes in the city within the next 15 days. District guardian minister Dada Bhuse also admitted about the ‘poor’ condition of the roads at many places of the city during his inspection on August 6.
