NASHIK
: A 16-year-old girl, reportedly from West Bengal, was spotted crying in the Sarveshvarnagar
area of Uttamnagar
, Ambad
on Sunday. However, the Ambad
police could not give many details as the girl was unable to speak or understand Hindi or Marathi and was also not cooperating. According to the primary reports with the police, some locals spotted the girl and reported the matter to the police.
On bringing her to the police station and questioning her, the cops realized she could not speak or understand Hindi or Marathi, following which they had to arrange for a translator.
The police said the girl informed them that she was beaten up by her step-mother because of which she ran away from home and came to Nashik in search for a job with the help of an agent.
The girl was residing with a woman named Sunita Chavan in the Uttamagar. However, the woman could not be traced until Sunday evening. The police said that though they had arranged for a translator, the girl was not cooperating and unwilling to give details of her native place or how and when she came to Nashik.
The police said that more details in the case could be unearthed once the woman was located. While the police claimed they had no record of her, locals, who did not wish to be named, said the woman was a native of Kerala and was into prostitution for the past many years in Uttamnagar area. A group of four-five girls who lived with her would leave the house early in the morning and return late at night, they added.
Seeing that the 16-year-old was being helped by the people, the woman, along with the other girls, left the place, the residents claimed.
The police contended that they did not had any record of the woman concerned with them.
