NASHIK: The ashes of legendary singer
Lata Mangeshkar were immersed in the Ramkund on the banks of the Godavari in the city on Thursday.
The final rituals of the late singer were performed by her nephew,
Adinath Mangeshkar
, and sister, Usha Mangeshkar, in the presence of other family members. Usha Mangeshkar said, “She was not only my sister but also my mother. All rituals were performed at an auspicious muhurat.”
The flight carrying the
Mangeshkars
landed at the Nashik airport around 10am, from where they reached Ramkund by road. Tight police bandobast and traffic arrangements were made to ensure that the ritual remained hassle-free. Though common citizens were prohibited at Ramkund, there was no hindrance to the people who wanted to perform rituals of their dead family members.
Lata Mangeshkar (92) died in a Mumbai hospital on Sunday morning after multi-organ failure. She was cremated at the Shivaji Park in Mumbai the same evening with full state honours.
