Igatpuri police seize gutka worth 70 lakh

Nashik: The Igatpuri police, acting on a tip-off, seized banned gutka worth Rs 70 lakh in two containers worth Rs 52 lakh and arrested the drivers travelling with the material towards Mumbai.
Police identified the drivers as Irfan Amin Khan (31) and Salman Amin Khan (31), who are brothers from Palwal district in Haryana. The Igatpuri police have secured their custody till May 29.
Inspector Raju Surve of the Igatpuri police said, “We will investigate the case and find the manufacturer of the banned flavoured tobacco and take action against him.”
“We were working on the lead for the last 15 days and keeping a close watch on the movement of trucks towards Mumbai. On Friday around 10.20am, our police personnel spotted the suspected trucks and intercepted them,” Surve added.
The drivers had picked up the banned tobacco product from a manufacturer in Jaipur and were transporting it to another person in Bhivandi in Thane, police said.
