The special judge and additional sessions judge, S C Datir, gave the verdict against Shridhar Chaudhari and Sanjay Chaudhari.

On the instructions of the headquarters, a four-member flying squad of the power utility had started inspection in Shahada town to check for cases of power pilferage by consumers. The squad carried out surprise checks at Shridhar and Sanjay’s residences at Mahalakshminagar and Govindnagar respectfully in the second week of December in 2015.

“In both the residences the flying squad found that the electricity metres were running slowly since they were tampered with. It resulted in monetary loss to MSEDCL to the tune of over Rs3 lakh in each of the two cases,” said MSEDCL officials.

According to them, the duo refused to pay the fixed electricity theft bill, following which a case was registered against them under Section 135 of the Electricity Act. The police investigated the crime and filed a charge sheet in the local court against them.

Court sentences duo to 6 months of simple imprisonment for power theft.
