Nashik: After a cloudy morning, the city received 4.4mm of rainfall in just 30 minutes on Sunday afternoon. In fact, heavy rain lashed parts of Nashik district as well, which included parts Sinnar, Niphad, Chandwad talukas among others.
India Metreorologial Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert forecasting thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds (40-50kmph) at isolated places in Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar districts for Monday and Tuesday. Light to medium rain is also in the cards in all five districts for Wednesday and Thursday.
The city has received a total rainfall of 155.4 mm in May. On May 20, Nashik received 30.6mm of rainfall in just 45 minutes between 5.30pm and 6.15pm, which led to waterlogging at several places.
Since early May, unseasonal rain have uprooted around 250 trees, brought down 200 branches and damaged over 40 vehicles as a result. Food and fruit crops on 6,300 hectares across the district have been damaged. NMC has identified 1,000 risky trees in the city and their branches are to be trimmed within 15 days.
