NASHIK: Taking charge from SP Pravin Padwal, who has been transferred to Thane as deputy commissioner of police, the new superintendent of police
Sanjay Mohite said that delivery of police services was his top priority. Maintaining law and order and controlling crime and other illegal activities were also among his top priorities, he added.
Mohite, who was an electrical engineer with the erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board, joined the police force in 1992 as deputy superintendent of police.
His first posting was in Niphad, followed by Malegaon, in Nashik, between 1995 and 1999, after which he was transferred to the state CID. The officer was part of the Indian Peace Keeping Mission in Kosovo from 2001 to 2002.
Later, he was promoted as the additional SP in Ratnagiri. He was also the principal of the Police Training School in Mumbai and SP in Jalna.
Mohite said, "Problems in Nashik are area specific as the district is divided into agricultural, industrial and tribal belts and the crimes happening in these areas are also different. The crime scenario of the entire district would be reviewed."
The SP also said that nearly 80 officers in the rural police were being transferred and it would take four to five days for the arrival of new officers. "It will take at least three months to understand whether we are on the right track to prevent crime, reduce the crime rate and implement community policing effectively," Mohite said.
The SP said that, with the general elections around the corner, he will also have to plan the policing accordingly.
