The demand for making these posts falling under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations in the city has been pending since long. The demand has been raised again in the backdrop of a recent murder in front of Malhar gate police chowkie and the alleged gambling activity behind another post in the city.

In May, a middle-aged man was battered to death with bricks by two men in broad daylight in the busy Ravivar Peth under the nose of Malhar gate police post, where no cop was present. The killers openly threatened onlookers and passers by with dire consequences if they disclosed their identity to the police.

In another case last year, five cops were found to be involved in gambling at a police post in the old commissionerate.

Recently, a staff member of SMRK college located on College Road met a tragic end after a rash motorcyclist knocked him down.

Following the incident, the college authorities demanded to make the College Road police post functional, as there was no official at the post to report such as incident.

Assuring that the assessment of the number of police posts will carried out, Singhal said, "The status report of all the posts in the commissionerate will be prepared in coming days. Steps will be taken to help the residents address any issue or seek help when needed."
