NASHIK: Locking your house to head out to a nearby place even for a couple of hours could now turn out to be a risky affair with alert burglars pouncing at every opportunity to strike.
In the past week, the police have registered three daylight burglaries from different parts of the city, where valuables totally worth Rs 85,000 were reportedly stolen.
In first case reported with the Panchavati police, valuables worth Rs 40, 000 were allegedly stolen from the residence of Ravindra Kashinath Nerkar (50) of Kalikanagar on MERI link road. According to the victim, the incident took place between 11am and 1pm while he was out of the house when the burglars broke in and decamped with jewellery.
In the second burglary that took place in broad daylight, the robbers targeted a house in Upnagar. Complainant Ranjana Balu Nagre (51), a resident of Jagtap mala, alleged that Sumitra Surajsingh Tomar (30), a resident of Bhagur, and an unidentified person allegedly broke into her house and stole cash and jewellery worth Rs 37,000. "The incident took place between 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Saturday when Nagre had gone out for a meeting. When she returned, the victim found all her valuables stolen and the locker of the cupboard broken," an official at the Upnagar police station said.
In the third incident registered with the Mumbai Naka police station, complainant Shakiralo Khan Mohammadali Khan (46), a resident of Killeark, Aurangabad, accused Farooque Yasin Qureshi (35) of Hariharnagar, Nashik, of allegedly stealing plastic chairs, suitcases and other household items worth Rs 8,000 between August 23 and 27. The complainant said that he had rented out the house to the accused. However, the duo got involved in a dispute regarding the property after which Khan allegedly allegedly committed the crime and fled.
