NASHIK: Senior
NCP leader Chhagan Bhujwal won the
Yeola
seat in Nashik for the fourth consecutive time. However, his son, Pankaj, was defeated by the Sena candidate in the neighbouring Nandgaon seat.
Chhagan Bhujbal defeated
Shiv Sena’s Sambhaji Pawar by a margin of 52,886 votes. While Chhagan bagged 1,22,861 votes, Pawar managed only 69,975 votes. Chhagan had sorted out the
water scarcity
problem in Yeola taluka with the Manzarpada diversion scheme. The project helped him create a positive impact on the constituency.
Pankaj, who is a two-term MLA from Nandgaon, could not replicate his father’s electoral victory. Shiv Sena’s Suhas Kande defeated Pankaj by 13,889 votes.
“Although Pankaj has lost the Nandgaon seat, NCP’s tally in the district has increased from the previous four to six seats now. NCP has emerged as the largest party in the district. Both NCP and Congress have done a miracle,” Bhujbal told TOI.
