Nashikites were treated to cinema of a different genre on Friday - the world famous Banff Mountain Film Festival was underway at the Kalidas Kala Mandir which showcased nine short films on the adventures of mountaineering.
"Vainateya, which means eagle, is the name of the group of mountaineers in Nashik, which hosted the international Banff Mountain Film Festival, currently on its tour of India. The festival was initially held in Canada and features real stories of profound journeys, unexpected adventures and ground-breaking expeditions told by renowned authors, photographers, adventurers and filmmakers from around the globe. Screening of selected nine movies was organised as part of the world tour of this festival that covers over 40 countries," said Prashant Pardeshi, coordinator of the festival in Nashik. After Surat, Mumbai, Kolkata and Pune, the fifth destination for the festival was Nashik.
"Mountaineering is a way of life and a sport that brings out the true spirit and inherent mental, physical and moral strength. With the idea of spreading the awareness of adventure, we have taken the initiative of screening these chosen award winning films," he added.
"It was amazing to see the inspiring real life stories of Ultra runner Rory Bosio and mountain biker Bill Ferat. Nashik has a good number of mountaineering enthusiasts. We are nationally acclaimed in cycling and adventure sports. Such festivals encourage the spirit of adventure enthusiasts here," said Aditi Deshpande, who made it a point to witness the screening of all nine films.
