Athlete Kavita Raut ties the knot in glittering ceremony

Kavita Raut, the 27-year-old Asian and Commonwealth Games medal winning long-distance runner from Savarpada village in Nashik district, tied the nuptial knot on Monday with Mahesh Tungar at Nandanwan Marriage Hall, Gangapur Road, in a glittering ceremony. Tungar is an assistant engineer with Mahagenco, Nashik.

NASHIK: Kavita Raut, the 27-year-old Asian and Commonwealth Games medal winning long-distance runner from Savarpada village in Nashik district, tied the nuptial knot on Monday with Mahesh Tungar at Nandanwan Marriage Hall, Gangapur Road, in a glittering ceremony. Tungar is an assistant engineer with Mahagenco, Nashik.
The marriage ceremony was attended by political bigwigs such as guardian minister Chhagan Bhujbal, MLC Jayant Jadhav, MLA Harischandra Chavan, corporators Sharad Koshire, Nana Mahale and Sunil Bagul.

Besides, sports personalities also made it a point to bless the couple. President of Athletics Federation of India Adille Sumariwala, Kavita's close friend and Olympian Sudha Singh, her colleagues from her former employer Railways, sports psychologist Bhishmraj Bam, former badminton player V H Patil, district secretary Hemant Pande, her local team mates and others were present on the occasion.
Kavita, who hails from a tribal family, was wearing a typical adivasi bridal outfit. On Sunday, Kavita's mehandi ceremony was held at her village.
Considering Kavita's popularity in the district, many local residents too gathered outside the hall braving the scorching sun to catch a glimpse of the newly weds. Kavita's coach Vijendra Singh and her visibly pleased father Ramdas and mother Sumitra attended the guests.
