NASHIK: President of the Shiv Sena’s youth wing,
Aditya Thackeray on Tuesday performed the bhumi pujan for a new 100-bed building at the Nashik civil hospital. The unit to be built over the next two years will serve as a Child and Mother Health Centre.
The Sena’s senior leaders, including MP Hemant Godse, were present at the ceremony. Civil surgeon Suresh Jagdale, said that this will be the first such treatment centre in the state, where all necessary treatment with reproductive and child health will be provided right from expecting mothers to newborn babies.
The facility will be a similar to the 200-bed unit that was set up at the Nashik civil hospital during the Kumbh Mela last year.
Jagdale said that Rs 26 crore has been approved for the centre and the tendering procedure will soon start.
Jagdale said that malnourishment among newborn babies was one of the main concerns in tribal pockets. He added that the diet and lifestyle of the tribal women affected newborn babies as their weight was not in proportion to their height. If they do not get proper treatment on time, there are chances of such children dying. The Centre is therefore taking all possible measures to provide treatment to malnourished children and the new unit at the Nashik civil hospital is a part of this initiative.
In the meantime, the 200-bed building of the Nashik civic hospital has been lying vacant after the Simhasta Kumbh Mela because of low staff since October 2015. There has been an attempt to shift certain wards to the new building. An official said that the new building will be attached to the vacant building.
