ACB nabs state GST staffer for ₹4,000 bribe demand

Nashik: A team of the Nashik Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a state GST department employee on Thursday for taking a bribe of Rs 4,000.The ACB laid the trap and arrested the 52-year-old officer who is responsible for the collection of professional tax.According to Sharmishtha Valavalkar, the ACB Superintendent of Police, the office had received a complaint from a person who ran a security agency.“The complaitant wanted a waiver of profession tax because his company was closed for the past two years. But for the process, the officer demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000,” said the officer.Following this, the complainant approached us. After verification, we registered a complaint and began our investigation, the officer said.Accordingly, a trap was laid, and the officer was caught red-handed accepting the bribe, he added.The officer has been remanded to police custody for three days.This is the third such bribery case in a month investigated by the ACB. On September 6, a sales tax officer was arrested while accepting Rs 40,000 from the complainant in Nashik. Before this, a senior officer of the health department in Jalgaon was booked for making a demand of Rs 50,000.

Health official in ACB net for 15,000 bribe

A health officer in Hyderabad was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for demanding a bribe of 15,000 rupees from a physiotherapist. The officer wanted the bribe in exchange for a certificate to run the physiotherapist's new clinic. The bribe amount was recovered, and the officer was arrested and will be produced before the ACB court.

Treasury officer held for accepting bribe of Rs 6,000 in Raigad

A treasury officer in Maharashtra's Raigad district has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a retired government employee. The officer, Maruti Ramchandra Pawar, had demanded the bribe in connection with the release of Rs 45,000 as part of the employee's gratuity payment. The ACB conducted a sting operation and arrested Pawar while he was accepting the money. He has been remanded to police custody until September 19.

Class-I officer held accepting 4L bribe

A class-I officer in Maharashtra was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The officer had demanded the bribe in exchange for clearing a bill of Rs 4.82 crore and returning a deposit of Rs 35 lakh.
