NASHIK: Three houses in the Alangun village of Surgana taluka were completely destroyed, and 33 others were partly damaged after the wall of a percolation tank breached on Tuesday morning and water came gushing in.
Surgana tehsildar Sachin Mulik said all 90 residents of the fully and partially damaged houses have been shifted to safer locations. The panchanama to assess property loss is being carried out.
“Of the 90 people shifted, 45 have now been sheltered at an educational institute, while the rest have taken refuge at their relatives’ homes,” Mulik said.
Alangun resident Krushna Pawar said the village officials had alerted people about a possible breach in the tank that had been constructed in 1982. The residents did manage to move to safer locations.
However, losses have been extensive. “The gushing water not just damaged houses, but also electricity poles. Now we have no power in the village. Everything has been washed away,” Pawar said.
Surgana block development officer Deepak Patil and a panchayat samiti team are on the spot making arrangements for people who have lost everything — including clothes, utensils, food items, grain etc. — kept in their homes
After the panchanama is done, the administration will move the proposal for government aid for the three houses that were completely damaged. Patil said they had requested Nashik citizens to provide some aid for people in Surgana, and help has started pouring in. People from Nashik have sent blankets, and clothes along with some grain packages for people. The aid packs are being distributed. The taluka administration will also provide food through the supply department.
The officers added they were carrying out the panchanama of farm damage as well. A separate report will be filed with the district administration after which, the government will take a call on the help to be provided to the affected persons.
