NASHIK: Around 50kg of cannabis (ganja) being
smuggled
in two cars, all worth Rs 6.79 lakh, was seized by
rural police
at Zodage — around 100-km from
Nashik
— on Dhule-Malegaon road on Saturday.
“On Sunday, a team led by inspector KK Patil of the Local Crime Branch (LCB) got a tip-off that ganja was being illegally transported from Dhule to Nashik in two cars,” a police officer said.
“Acting on the information, we laid a trap near a hotel at Zodage village on the Dhule-Malegaon road. Two suspected vehicles, coming from the Dhule side, were intercepted by police. Four people travelling in the cars — Ravindra Suresh Chavan (45), Rahul Kashinath Bhind alias Marathe (34), Sabirkhan Shabbir Khan (20) and Nayan Jadhav (19) — were detained on the spot,” he added.
Both the vehicles were searched by police and around 50kg of ganja hidden in polythene bags was found.
“The four suspects were booked under various sections of the NDPS Act by the Malegaon taluka police. The trap was laid as per guidance of rural police SP Arti Singh. During the course of investigation, it will be clear from where the suspects had sourced the ganja and to whom was it to be delivered,” the officer said, adding Malegaon taluka police is investigating the case further.
