50% fare rebate for women in Maharashtra buses

NASHIK: With the state government starting the implementation of 50% waiver on ticket fares for women passengers in Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses, the Nashik division of the state transport utility has started getting queries from commuters who had already booked their tickets online.

A press release issued by the MSRTC on Friday said the scheme has been implemented and the shortfall will be reimbursed by the government under the Mahila Samman Yojana. The concession, however, is only for inter-city buses and not for the city bus services operated by the MSRTC.

The officials pointed out that concession was limited for travelling within the state borders. “Women travelling to Belagavi, Panaji, Ahmedabad, among other destinations will get the 50% concession till the state borders and thereafter full fare will be applicable,” an MSRTC officail said.
