Nashik:A speeding multi-utility vehicle (MUV) hit five people in Hartale village of Muktainagar in Jalgaon district on Thursday morning. The driver of the vehicle escaped from the scene after the accident.
The police registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the MUV driver under relevant sections of the BNS and the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA).
Inspector Ashish Adsul of the Muktainagar police station said, "The accident occurred near Hartale village on the Mumbai–Nagpur highway. Workers, who regularly stop at the same spot every day, were in wait for work from others who need them. A farmer and four workers having a discussion about a certain job when the MUV, which was on the service road, rammed into them."
The workers suffered minor injuries, except the farmer. After opening the MUV, police and citizens found there were two registration number plates on the vehicle. The police found two batons, just like the ones with the police personnel.
"With the help of the chassis number of the MUV, we traced the owner of the car from Muktainagar. He, however, told us that he rented out the MUV to some other person. The person concerned, however, was not traced. Once arrested, the reason behind putting a fake number plate and the two batons in the SUV will be clear," said Adsul.
