22 tankers deployed in district

NASHIK: The district administration has deployed 22 tankers to provide drinking water to 39 villages and two hamlets across six talukas. Six villages are being provided water from the wells that have been acquired by the administration.
The water scarcity this year is worse because of the lesser rainfall in some areas and the depletion of groundwater levels.
The highest numbers of tankers are deployed in Yeola taluka, where 11 tankers are providing water to 26 villages and one hamlet. The demand for tankers is on the rise.
“The villages sharing border with Nandgaon are on a higher altitude compared to those on the eastern and western parts of the taluka. That belt has received less rainfall and because of the higher altitude the water has drained out. This is the reason for higher demand of tankers in the taluka,” said Keshav Kamble, a resident of Bharam village.
The villagers alleged that the district administration was not very serious on the demand for tankers for drinking water supply and said that the region was in need of at least four more tankers. The demand would go up as the heat rises, they added.
In Balgan taluka, seven tankers are being used to supply water to eight villages and a hamlet. Sinnar has two tankers supplying water to two villages.
In Nandgaon, Malegaon and Deola talukas, one tanker each has been pressed into service.
During the corresponding period last year, the administration had deployed 12 tankers to provide drinking water to 17 villages and four hamlets.
The scarcity of water in the district is worse this year and the number of tankers are likely to increase more, an official from the district administration said.
