NASHIK: The Bhadrakali police on Monday handed over two men, arrested in connection with a theft case in Pune, to the Pune police following court orders.
Stolen goods worth Rs 6.30 lakh recovered from them were also handed to the Pune police, B A Borkar, senior inspector of the Bhadrakali Police Station, said.
The two accused, Wazid alias Bhaiyaa Abdul Wahid Chowdhary and Amir alias Satya Amin Ansari, both from the Bhadrakali area, were arrested late on Sunday night.
Borkar said that they had received information about stolen goods being stored on the terrace of a building behind Tractor House in Dwarka. The police raided the building and nabbed the duo who were attempting to flee. The two accused who attempted to flee were nabbed by the police.
The police also seized 228 gas stoves, carrom boards and other goods.
After checking the goods, the police contacted the gas stove company. The batch number on the products indicated that the goods were stolen from a truck in Pune. A complaint in this regard was lodged with the Vimantal police station.
Borkar said that a transport company had loaded the goods on to the truck at a godown in Wagholi on Pune-Ahmednagar Road. On January 13, while driving from Pune to Bangalore, the driver had gotten off the truck near an octroi naka, when the truck was stolen along with the goods. The goods, including fans, iron angles and carrom boards, were brought to Nashik.
Meanwhile, the main accused Nijam Mohammad is absconding along with the truck. The total worth of the stolen merchandise is Rs 46 lakh.
Borkar saidafter the stolen goods were recovered, that the Vimantal police station was informed about the recovery and following the subsequent court procedures, the two accused were handed over to the Pune police on late Monday night.
