2 ex-Army men among 5 held in ₹3.7cr Ghoti robbery case

Nashik: Five men, including two ex-servicemen, were arrested by Nashik Rural Police on Tuesday in the Rs 3.7 crore Ghoti robbery case. They have been remanded to police custody until Feb 4.Those arrested have been identified as Devendrasing Parmar (33), Akash Parmar (22), both residents of Naini village, Kheragad taluka; Hubsing Mullasing Thakur (42) resident of Chenkora, Bharatpur, Rajasthan; Zahir Khan (52), resident of Kheragad (both ex-servicemen); and Shivsing Thakur (45) also resident of Kheragad, police officials said.Three more accused are at large, officials added.Nashik superintendent of police Shahji Umap said that the eight-member team from Agra stopped a car that belonged to a courier service agency for gold and silver ornaments near Mundhegaon in the Ghoti police station area at 3am on January 18. They allegedly assaulted the driver and later decamped with the valuables worth Rs 3.7 crore.“Our team tracked all the clues available from the incident spot and used technical evidence to track down the car and those involved in the robbery,” said Umap. The police teams reached Kheragad and Itaura in Agra district and maintained vigil on the accused for two days before arresting them on Tuesday and getting them to Nashik on transit remand.The police officer said an accused, Akash Parmar, worked with the same courier company and had left the job in December last year. He had all the details of the manner in which parcel services are offered and even had a picture of the car used for the service.He conspired about the robbery with Devendrasing Parmar, who organized the team and executed the robbery. He already has a case registered against him for stealing 5 kg of gold in the state of Gujarat.
