12k women protest against CAA, NRC in Malegaon
Nashik: Around 12,000 women participated in a rally organised by Dastoor Bachav Samiti (Save constitution committee) in Malegaon in Nashik district on Monday to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The protest march was led by Malegaon corporator from Janata Dal Shane Hind—daughter of former minister and senior socialist leader late Saathi Nihal Ahmed. The rally, which spanned close to three hours, started from Jameatus Swalehat, Jamia Nagar and culminated at Yadgaar Chowk. Placards bearing slogans like ‘CAA-Kala Kanoon Wapas Lo’, ‘NRC Wapas Lo’, ‘CAA Hame Manjur Nahi’ and other such messages along with the tricolour dotted the rally.
Condemning the
Sajeda Nihal Ahmed, Tahera Bano, MLA Maulana Mufti Ismail were among the other leaders who attended the rally.
Superintendent of Nashik rural police (SP) Arti Singh was personally present in Malegaon to ensure the rally went off peacefully.
“We had deployed a 500-strong force to ensure nothing went wrong at the rally. We had summoned 250 women personnel from various places and stationed them at the rally. A series of meetings were held with the organisers earlier in order to ensure there was no disruption of law and order,” said Singh.

Condemning the
Central government
for the CAA, NRC and the National Population Register (NPR), Shane Hind said, “The government has becomearrogant
...We also protested against the ‘triple talaq’ passed by the Central Government. It is now testing our patience. We are ready to go to any lengths to register our opposition to the three controversial measures taken by the government as they are specifically designed against Muslims.”Sajeda Nihal Ahmed, Tahera Bano, MLA Maulana Mufti Ismail were among the other leaders who attended the rally.
