Woman arrested in Monica murder case

NAGPUR: Crime branch cops have arrested a middle-aged woman, Geetabai Maldure of Pala village in Morshi Taluka in Katol, in Monica Kirnapure murder case. Cops have registered a case of destroying of evidences under section 201 of IPC against her.
Police said that after killing Monica on March 11 Umesh Marather alias Bhurya, Shirkant Sonekar and Raju left for Katol to collect Rs 1.20 lakh from the mastermind Kunal Jaiswal.Later another accused Pradeep Sahare also joined them there. But, after learning about the wrong girl - Monica - being killed by his hired people, an infuriated Kunal abused and thrashed them. Still, Kunal had to give the decided amount of Rs 1.20 lakh. Panicked for killing the wrong girl, the murderers fled in different directions.
On that night Sonekar, Bhurya and Raju took shelter at Bhurya's sister Geetabai Maldure residence. Bhurya only told her sister that he has committed a big mistake, police said. To destroy the evidence Geetabai washed the blood stained clothes of Sonekar and Bhurya and later burned them. On Friday evening, cops had also arrested Sonekar's uncle Raneshwar for the same reason. He is in police custody till March 12.
