With 2 good years, Maha economy could surpass UAE, Singapore: Fadnavis

Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said Maharashtra's rapidly expanding economy could soon surpass that of United Arab Emirates and Singapore, noting the state is already close to these countries in economic size and "two good years of sustained growth could push it ahead".Speaking at XSIO Advanced Industrial & Manufacturing Park ‘bhoomipoojan' event in Nagpur, Fadnavis also said Maharashtra's economy has touched $664 billion, catapulting it to among the largest economic regions globally. "If Maharashtra is considered as a country, its economy would rank 30th in the world, beating several European nations," he said, highlighting the scale of the state's economic expansion in recent years.
The chief minister noted that Maharashtra added nearly $100 billion to its gross state domestic product (GSDP) within a year, highlighting the strong pace of economic expansion across key sectors. "With such a growth trajectory, the govt's goal is to transform Maharashtra into India's first trillion-dollar sub-national economy in coming years," he said.The chief minister also emphasised the changing global economic landscape, where supply chains are being reconfigured due to geopolitical developments. "In such times, if a democratic nation like India can provide a reliable platform for global supply chains, the country will move closer to the vision of becoming a global leader as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he said.The chief minister said the state govt has hammered out a roadmap for Maharashtra's economic progress, but emphasised its realisation depends on industry participation.
