Will contest competency clause in Dabba case: CP
Nagpur: City police chief K
Venkatesh, during the informal discussion, said that police department is confident to qualify in the ‘by any person’ category of the section 26 of the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956 which the High court had thought otherwise while ruling on the bail plea of two accused of Dabba case. “SEBI (Securities and exchange board of India) has verified the fact with city police that we too can probe cases pertaining to the Dabba trading without any issue of jurisdiction. We are hopeful to convince the judiciary about our competency for which our preparation is underway,” he said.
Venkatesh, who has brought about several reforms in the city police in the last two months including opening of a specialized training cell, said soon there would be a marked improvement in the manner in which cops would interact with citizens and an apparent change can be perceived in their behaviour. “We had set several agendas after taking over the reigns around two months ago. Some of them have been addressed but the rest are also under consideration,” said the CP.
Like his usual manner, CP also showed his keenness to record the issues pertaining to traffic mismanagement and bottlenecks from the media personnel along with DCP traffic Smartana Patil and also DCP (Economic offence wing) Ishu Sindhu beside him. Though much of the discussion revolved around traffic, Venkatesh claimed that he is equally focused on addressing the crime prevention and detection.
Venkatesh also said that officials of the Metro rail company has been asked to deploy wardens, install signages and barricades at their sites.
