Washim Class 12 mass copying case: 26 teachers among 27 to face charges
Washim: Following the mass copying incident during the Class 12 board examination at Shri Mainagiri Junior College, a case has been registered at Washim Rural police station against 27 staff members, including 26 teachers and a non-teaching employee. The complaint was filed by group education officer Gajanan Bajad, and offences have been registered under relevant legal provisions. A detailed investigation is underway.
The mass copying incident occurred on February 16, during the Physics paper, when a flying squad led by primary education officer Sanjay Sasane conducted a surprise inspection. They found 581 students had submitted nearly identical answers, indicating large-scale organised copying, and uncovered serious irregularities in the conduct of the examination. The revelation created a stir in the education sector across the district. Taking serious note of the matter, the education department proceeded with legal action against the staff allegedly involved. The case has sparked controversy among teachers' organisations. Union leader Balasaheb Gote accused Sasane of bias and called the action unfair. The union has threatened to boycott exam duties and submitted a memorandum to the district collector and zilla parishad CEO, demanding the flying squad's cancellation.Meanwhile, education officer Mangal Dhupe confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged against 27 staff members of Shri Mainagiri Maharaj Junior College in connection with the mass copying case.
