police have modified murder charges into abetment to suicide. The move comes after it came to fore that Wanjari committed suicide at his home, while his relatives were claiming that he died days after being thrashed and kidnapped by the accused.
Wanjari died at his home on May 8 days after being kidnapped and thrashed by the accused. Hudkeshwar police had registered a case of kidnapping and murder. Police had arrested all the six accused and all of them are current in jail in MCR.
Wanjari had borrowed Rs1.75 lakh from his friend-turned-foe Akhash Bhosle who was seeking Rs2.80 lakh from the deceased. However, since Wanjari failed to deliver the money, Bhosle, along with other accused allegedly kidnapped and thrashed Wanjari before giving him time to arrange money. However, Wanjari was found dead at his home.
According to police, family members of Wanjari had claimed that he was complaining of heart pain when he died. However, there were ligature marks on his neck. Police conducted Wanjari’s post mortem, but the initial report did not reveal a clear reason behind his death.
Suspecting something fishy, the cops started investigating other angles in the case. Police went through Wanjari’s call details and found that he had made the last call to his sister.
The cops questioned Wanjari’s sister who said her brother had called her saying that there is nothing left in his life and he is going to take the drastic step. Following the call, Wanjari’s sister called his elder brother Sushant, who rushed to the spot but till then Wanjari had hanged himself.
Police said Wanjari told Sushant not to tell anyone about his suicide. Hence, the latter kept the fact hidden.
Wanjari took the drastic step as he had taken loan from several people and was unable to repay. Wanjari also feared that he will be thrashed by loan sharks, just like the accused as they had earlier assaulted him.
