Man Stabbed to Death on the Eve of Diwali
Nagpur: Two incidents of stabbing, one resulting in the victim collapsing in the hospital later, put the city cops on high alert on the eve of Diwali on Wednesday.
Abu Hamza Jalauddin Shaikh was stabbed by Majid Ali Qadar Ali and his accomplice, Golu Tauseef, following a drunken brawl near Jai Bheem Chowk in north Nagpur. Hamza, a native of Bihar, worked as a menial labourer. He was addicted to liquor, said police. While purchasing liquor from a wine shop, he picked up a quarrel with Majid and Golu.
Later, Majid and Golu spotted Hamza sitting across the road. Majid repeatedly stabbed Hamza, leading to his death during treatment at the Mayo Hospital. Majid was arrested by Pachpaoli police, while Golu is still on the run.
In another incident near Cotton Market Square, a beggar identified as Roopchand Madavi was stabbed by another beggar for unknown reasons. Ganeshpeth police are yet to nab the accused. Madavi is fighting for life at the Govt Medical College and Hospital.
