Vidarbha likely to get light rains between Nov 25-27
November 17 first day in history when worlds average temperature rises over 2 degree Celsius over pre-industrial levels: WMO
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported that on November 17, the global average temperature exceeded 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, the upper limit set under the Paris Agreement. The temperature on that day was 2.07 degrees Celsius above the average from 1850-1900. The WMO clarified that this does not mean the Paris Agreement levels have been breached, but it serves as a warning for the urgency of climate action. The WMO also noted that 2023 is likely to be the warmest year on record. The confirmation will be included in the WMO's State of the Global Climate 2023 report, to be released on November 30.
Global temperature briefly crosses 2-degree warming limit for first time
Global temperatures briefly surpassed the critical threshold of 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, according to climate scientist Samantha Burgess. While this breach is not a permanent state, it indicates a steady increase in global temperatures and suggests future challenges in reversing the impacts of the climate crisis. The breach occurred just before the UN COP28 climate conference, where countries will assess their progress towards the Paris Climate Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures likely to be in normal range for week
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dry weather with morning haze in isolated places for the next few days. The temperatures have been within the normal range for the past couple of days. The minimum temperature on Saturday was 24.4 degrees Celsius, just 1.8 degrees higher than normal, and rose to 25 degrees Celsius on Sunday. There is not expected to be a significant change in minimum temperature in the next four to five days. The maximum temperature has been slightly above normal as well. The weather has been dry since the last phase of post-monsoon activity.
