Nagpur: The opposition parties attacked the government over alleged inaction against drug mafia in the state during a protest outside the Vidhan Bhavan on Monday. The opposition slammed the government’s “complete failure in taking action against drugs mafia”. The opposition leaders went on to compare the spreading drug tentacles in Maharashtra with Punjab, one of the states hit hardest by the drug mafia. “The state has become Udta Maharashtra,” they said, referring to the Hindi film ‘Udta Punjab’, which is based on the drug mafia in Punjab.The opposition cornered the government by alleging that it is shielding drug racketeers like Lalit Patil.Opposition leaders, including leader of opposition in the assembly Vijay Wadettiwar, leader of opposition in the council Ambadas Danve, Satej Patil and several others raised slogans like ‘Udta Punjab nantar udta Maharashtra’, ‘Sarkar kadun kaay karavi asha tarunancha maathi marli drugchi nasha’.Wadettiwar demanded action against ministers who shielded drugs racketeers.

During the winter session of the Maharashtra state assembly, the opposition staged a protest at Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur. They blamed the state government for allowing the drug mafia to flourish, comparing the situation to Udta Punjab. Opposition leaders accused the government of being a mute spectator while drugs are openly sold. They also alleged that the government is providing special facilities and protection to the drug racketeer Lalit Anil Patil.

Deaths in Maharashtra govt hospitals rock Vidhan Bhavan, opposition says healthcare on ventilator

Opposition parties in the Maharashtra state legislature highlighted the unavailability of basic healthcare facilities and medicines in government-run hospitals. They brought a black stretcher, oxygen mask, and stethoscope to protest the sorry state of affairs. The opposition members stated that a whopping 436 deaths have taken places in six months in the state-run hospitals. They criticized the government for not being able to save lives or provide quality healthcare. The health minister and medical education minister were held responsible for these deaths.
