The narcotic was found in possession of Sahu, known to be one of the masterminds of drug racket in north Nagpur. Malik, who had come to receive the consignment, was Sahu’s main distributor in the north city. The two were later produced before a court that remanded them to police custody for two days.
Sahu was booked in a similar case in 2017 at Sadar police station.
City police’s crime branch has initiated a crackdown on the MD drug cartels through it’s specialized unit dealing in cases pertaining to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The kingpin of MD racket, gangster Abu and his gang, have been arrested by the special unit of PI RD Nikam. The other big names in MD racket, like Mujaheed and Sajid, who were once close to Abu, are yet to be nabbed.
Pachpaoli police squad comprised constables Raj Choudhary, Gajanan Nishitkar, Sachin Sonwane, Sanjay Gite, Vijay Lande and others under PSI Dhakulkar, API Patil and PI Ashok Meshram. The raid was supervised by Zonal DCP Rahul Maknikar.
It is learnt that Sahu had become one of the sole suppliers of MD in city after Abu’s arrest as Mujaheed and Sajid are already under scanner. The police are now trying to unearth the rest of the network operating for Sahu and Amir, said PI Meshram.
