Two drown, two saved at Wardha, Painganga confluence

CHANDRAPUR

: Two youths

drowned

while two others were rescued at the confluence of Wardha and Painganga rivers near Wada village on Thursday evening. The four had gone in a group to immerse the ashes of a friend’s mother.



Reports said the group of over 20 people from Babupeth locality of Chandrapur had gone to the confluence of the rivers at Wada at around 4pm. While others in the group returned after

rituals

, four people, Ketan Potdukhe (20), Vikky alias Lala Mahulikar (27), Uttam Tekam (35) and Nainesh Shah (27), stayed behind to bathe and have fun in the river. The four crossed the river at a shallow place. While returning, they entered the river where the water was deep and current was fast.

The

gushing water

washed away all four. When people on the bank saw them drowning, they rushed to save them. They could only save Tekam and Shah, while Potdukhe and Mahulikar drowned. Ghugus police began search operation for the drowned youths with the help of speed boat summoned from Chandrapur. The search was called off when it grew dark. The search would resume on Friday morning.
