, district and additional sessions judge, on Monday sentenced two constables of

Rampur

police station of Chandrapur district to imprisonment and also fines after they were found guilty of accepting Rs 500 bribe from a complainant.

Constables Vijay Singh Thakur and Shrikant Rathod have been convicted under relevant sections of The Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA), 1988. Under Section 7 of PCA, the court held Thakur guilty and awarded two years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 5,000 to the two. The court also convicted Thakur under Section 13 (2) of the PCA before awarding three years of imprisonment and fine of Rs 7,500. In default of the fine, the jail term would be extended.

Rathod was also held guilty under relevant sections of the PCA by the court that slapped him with six months of imprisonment and fine of Rs 5,000. In case of default, the jail term would be extended by another two months.

The complainant in the case had approached the cops for releasing his vehicle detained for violation of traffic rules. The cops wanted Rs 500 from the vehicle owner for releasing it and cancelling the challan. The complainant approached the State Anti-Corruption Bureau. ACB subsequently nabbed the cops while accepting the bribe.
