Two arrested for illegal cattle smuggling and cruelty in nagpur
Nagpur: Tehsil Police registered a case against two men after they were caught allegedly tying up 15 bovine animals illegally with the intent of slaughter at Noorani Ground, Mominpura. The animals, found in distress without food or water, were rescued and handed over to a local gaushala.The incident took place on May 7 at around 10.40am, when police officials from the tehsil police station were patrolling the area and received a tip-off about the illegal activity. Acting on this information, the officers, accompanied by witnesses, reached the location and discovered the animals tied in cruel and unhygienic conditions.Upon inquiry, the two accused were identified as Aslam Qureshi, aged 55, and Bilal Ansari, aged 27, both residents of Mominpura. Preliminary findings suggest the animals were brought there for illegal slaughter. The estimated value of the rescued cattle is around Rs 1.8 lakh.Following this, a case of animal cruelty and smuggling was registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.The operation was conducted under the supervision of DCP Mahak Swamy (Zone 3) and ACP Anita More of the Kotwali Division. The field team included Senior Police Inspector Shubhangi Deshmukh, PSI Rameez Shaikh, PSI Surekha Sagar, and Constable Ramaji Thakur.Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
