Twin titles for Jeeva, Anudhya, Vaishnavi in Nagpur badminton tourney

Nagpur: Jeeva Pillai, Anudhya Satpute, and Vaishnavi Manglekar won twin titles in the Nagpur district selection badminton tournament, which concluded at the Achievers Sports Club, Besa, on Sunday. While Jeeva emerged as the men's singles and doubles champion, Anudhya lifted the U-13 and U-15 crowns, respectively, as Vaishnavi rallied from a game down to win the U-17 title before winning the U-19 girls' singles final in straight games.In the men's singles summit clash, Jeeva registered a thrilling 21-18, 12-21, 21-16 victory over Krishna Singh and paired up with 15-year-old Sairaj Nayse to clinch the men's doubles title in almost similar fashion. The duo of Jeeva and Sairaj rallied splendidly after losing the opening game 10-21 to prevail over the pair of Akshad Vitonde and Ashish Rajput 24-22, 21-15 for their maiden men's doubles title.Jeeva, however, missed scoring a hat-trick of titles after losing the opening game 9-21 against Priyanshu Dubey and retired in the second outing, down 5-11 in the U-19 boys' singles final. For Anudhya Satpute, both the U-13 and U-15 girls' singles finals were relatively easy affairs as she prevailed over Dhriti Mehta and Harshika Sharma, respectively, in straight games.Vaishnavi Manglekar, however, registered victories in contrasting fashion. In an exciting U-17 girls' singles final, Vaishnavi came from behind to get the better of Sanvi Ghate 14-21, 21-11, 21-16 before she registered a straight games 21-18, 21-10 triumph over Fizza Akbani in the U-19 title clash.A total of 223 shuttlers participated in 25 events in the tournament, which will be considered a selection event for the inter-district U-17 and U-19 championships. Later, the prizes were distributed by Asha Pathan Nichat (IAS).
