NAGPUR: Strong tremors were experienced in Nagpur after an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck Mulugu, Telangana, approximately 300 km away, at 7.27 AM on Wednesday, the National Center for Seismology reported.

District collector Vipin Itankar assured residents there was no need to panic, stating, "Nothing major was reported in the district." Many residents felt the tremors and observed the shaking of buildings and furniture in various parts of Nagpur.

According to officials, tremors were also felt in Nagpur and Gadchiroli districts of Maharashtra following the earthquake in neighbouring Telangana.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed light tremors were recorded in Nagpur, while local residents reported similar experiences.

Mild shocks were also felt in Gadchiroli, a district close to the Telangana border, according to information provided by the district office.

IMD officials explained that light tremors are typically experienced within a radius of 200 to 300 km from the earthquake's epicentre.
