Amravati: Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University has withdrawn Marathi literary work ‘Te Pannas Diwas' (Those Fifty Days), authored by writer Pawan Bhagat, from its syllabus after a heated debate in the academic council. The decision followed a 23-8 vote in the academic council, with critics labeling the novel "anti-govt".
The controversy began when the university's academic council, chaired by VC Milind Barahate discussed inclusion of the book in BA 2nd year Marathi syllabus. Proponents argued the novel is a significant literary work, while opponents claimed it contained anti-govt sentiments. The council ultimately decided to remove the book, citing it lacked educational value and promoted divisive ideas.
The vice-chancellor also supported the novel's removal, stating that the decision aimed to maintain academic integrity in the curriculum.
