Tata Advanced Systems doubles land holding in Mihan for aerospace expansion

Nagpur: Eyeing expansion in sync with global aviation boom, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) — earlier known as TATL Manufacturing Solutions that makes aircraft floor beams — has doubled its land holding in Mihan to 60 acres. A projected increase in the order book of aircraft makers like Boeing and Airbus is expected to raise business for facilities like that of TASL, leading to expansion. Last week, it was allotted an additional 30 acre in the Mihan-Special Economic Zone (SEZ).Over a decade ago, the company began the unit at Nagpur, which is dubbed to be one of its kind in the world. The facility makes floor beams for both Boeing and Airbus aircraft, making it the only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) catering to both aircraft manufacturers."With a projected increase in aircraft production and an increasing order book for both Boeing and Airbus, the demand for high-tech aerospace manufacturing capabilities is also expected to increase in coming decades. Recognising the growth potential, Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) — developer of the SEZ — reached out to TASL, suggesting it should explore opportunities within Mihan. A meeting was held between MADC's managing director Swati Pandey and TASL officials to finalise terms and conditions, after which allocation of an additional 30 acres was facilitated," said a press release. The expansion is expected to contribute to developing the aerospace ecosystem in the region, the release said.
