Sunetra backs Supriya’s stance on avoiding Pawar vs Pawar poll clash

Nagpur: Signalling an effort to defuse intra-family political tensions, deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar on Thursday endorsed Supriya Sule's position that there should be no "Pawar versus Pawar" electoral contest, calling it a "welcome and appropriate" stance.Speaking during her first visit to Nagpur after assuming office, Pawar said the family would seek to avoid direct political confrontations in the future. "Family and politics must be kept separate," she said, reiterating a position she described as consistent since entering public life. Referring to Sule's remarks ruling out a head-to-head contest within the family, Pawar said, "The determination to avoid such a contest is extremely positive. It is not just her wish, but ours as well."Her comments come amid heightened political scrutiny of divisions within the Pawar family, a key force in Maharashtra politics. Pawar said efforts should be made to ensure that "there is no direct political conflict among family members", underlining the need for restraint in future electoral battles.Asked about the exit polls for elections in five states, Pawar struck a cautious note, saying projections often vary in accuracy. "The final results are yet to come. Sometimes estimates are correct, sometimes they are not. The clear picture will emerge only after official results," she said.Pawar also acknowledged the reception she received from party workers in Nagpur despite intense summer heat, describing it as a reflection of their continued affection for the leadership. Several local leaders, including Anil Ahirkar, Rajabhau Tanksale, Shrikant Shivankar, Subodh Mohite, Abha Pande, Tanaji Wanve, Sunita Yerne and Dilip Pankule, were present during her visit.
